What started as #EatAloneTogether by the Restaurant & Catering Association and Unilever Food Solutions to help support local business supplement their dine-in business, and grow demand for takeaway and delivery has now evolved into #TakeawayTuesday. They are encouraging all Australians to now support their local restaurants by ordering takeaway on Tuesday.

#TakeawayTuesday kicked off on 21 July and after that every Tuesday, while restaurants across the country are experiencing reduced dine-in volumes, NSW has implemented new restrictions to cut their patron numbers drastically. Melbourne is forced into a 6-week lockdown as of 8 July. It’s therefore especially important for the community to support their local in these tough times.

As a result of COVID-19, according to Food Industry Foresight data, 100% of venues surveyed had moved to takeaway, and 57% had moved to introduce delivery. Both these revenue streams will be critical in keeping the industry alive into the future.
